Chapters of Empathy

Project Resiliency is starting a new book club, Chapters of Empathy! This book club is created to provide peer support to their peers. The goal of the book club is for all participants to build strong connections with one another and be able to share their experiences and emotions comfortably.

We will be reading the book On Earth, We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong. This book is in the form of a letter to his illiterate mother, who survived the Vietnam War. As he writes his letter, he shares his childhood memories with both her and his grandmother and his first love with a white boy named Trevor. This novel touches on topics such as race, nationality, gender, violence, trauma, and family.

Start Date: Tuesday, April 23rd from 5:30 - 7:00PM. There will be a total of 3 sessions.

Location: MKE CoWork

Additionally, we would like to know about your needs and expectations, by filling out the Google Form below, it will help pin point important questions and topics this book touches on.

Meet our Milwaukee Coordinator:

Hello! My name is Pazong Vang and I am the project coordinator located in Milwaukee, WI.

I love reading romance novels, taking my dog on walks and hikes, and cooking. I also love my job! I believe that it  is important for mental health to be known in the SEA community so we can break the stigma and finally feel comfortable talking about it.

My ultimate goal in bringing workshops and programs into the community is to bring awareness to self-love and good self-reflection. A lot of times mental health takes a great toll on how one sees and takes care of themselves so I believe learning to love yourself is the first step.
